Walking in the light of God’s Love-Together we will succeed

Reading

“Reading is important. If you know how to read then the whole world opens up to you.”

— Barack Obama

We love reading and our aim is to encourage this in all of our children. We encourage free reading and children are invited to bring their current book into school to read during independent reading time.  We begin each week with an extended period of independent reading during which a child will be chosen at random to relax with a hot chocolate and a book in our cosy library corner.

We also have a whole class novel to encourage reading for pleasure and to develop comprehension skills .  We use the VIPERS method for teaching reading skills.  More information can be found with the following link:

Literacy Shed Plus - READING VIPERS

'Reading Planet' (link below) is our online resource and each child has a login. Whilst we realise that by year 6 most children will be reading their own chapter books, we will set the children some online reading which they may complete as an optional additional piece of homework. We will keep an overview of this in school and set more books as needed.
