House of the Week: Derby
P.E. Class of the Week: All Classes!
Today was our Festival of Sport. It was opened by our award winning dance troupe ( video is in the Summer Term gallery) and then we were off!
Children took part in a range of activities, earning points for their house as they went. They could also earn points for good sportsmanship, teamwork and helping others.
Everyone did really well, especially as it was one of the hornets days of the year so far! During each round, a rest break was built in for one team so they could cool down and rehydrate.
At at the end of the morning, scores were collated and the winning house was....Derby! Congratulations to everyone who took part and Derby for being worthy winners ( I’m in Derby so I’m a little biased!)
Thank you to everyone who came to watch - we hope you enjoyed yourselves and were not too frazzled! Thank you to Mr Kirby, Mr Moran and Mr Wilson for organising and setting up the activities and to the whole staff for running activities and helping the morning run smoothly. Thank you to the PTFA for being on hand to help where needed, and for providing anc distributing drinks and fruit.
Here are photographs from Group 9 (and some Group 8 mixed in) to go alongside the other post for Group 8 and mix.
Thanks,
Mr Hargreaves
Dear Parents of Y5 and Y6,
I hope you got everyone home safely and the washing didn’t smell too much! As promised, here is the first set of photographs. These are mostly from Group 8 but also other groups mixed in. I wanted to get these on as quickly as possible for you - even before my washing has gone in! Other sets will be uploaded soon.
I hope you enjoy looking through with your children.

Dear Parents,
Just before we left we took our second ‘official photograph’. Great contract to the one on the hill! We are next to the Lake that we enjoyed so much. We will be home very soon.

Dear Y5/Y6 Parents,
Good Morning Thursday!
A brand new day has begun. The sky is blue and the sun is shining - how amazing is that! After a lovely cooked breakfast of: sausages, bacon, hash browns, beans, tomatoes, yoghurt and fruit … we cleared the drying room and walked to the activity stations. Group 8 and 9 are Orienteering, Group 10 are on the Military Obstacle Course, Group 11 Zip Line and Group 12 Blind Trail. Next we are back on the Lake (which hopefully is warming nicely!).
I’m trying to upload some of the photographs – I hope you enjoy what you see! The children are having a fantastic time and last night slept like logs!

NOTE: There is no WIFI readily available on the site. We are taking photographs that we will try to upload. Anything we do upload we have to ‘piggyback’ using a network we can find’. I hope you understand why we cannot upload the 100s of photos we have taken but will try our best. We will upload them once we can make a connection.
Dear Y5/Y6 Parents,
Greetings from a very wet Lockerbie! Tonight the rain met us but it hasn’t spoilt our fun! It is the first rain we have had so we have been really fortunate.
We arrived after a fantastic journey and on arrival were led to our Pod Village. The Pods are amazing – little wooden huts that are warm and comfy. We are all in different groups with a teacher from St Mary’s leading each one. We have completed: team games, scavenging, Hill Walk, archery, fencing and volleyball (but not every group yet). Tomorrow we begin the water activities.
The meals are excellent – lots to eat and yummy too!
The Manor House is very famous in the local area and our Pod Village is within its grounds. On our Hill Wall today, we met some rather interested cows, not to mention lots of sheep and hills that could have been mountains.
The medicine round is almost complete for tonight and we are now getting ready for bed. After a very busy day – we are all looking forward to a ‘Pod’ sleep.

What a transformation! John’s Garden is looking very bright and colourful thanks to some amazingly hard work and effort from our PTFA. The playground has been empty so far as most of the children are on the new artificial grass! Thank you very much to every parent, grandparent, friend or family member who helped in any way, we really do appreciate it all.
More work is planned to complete the transformation of the school environment, if you wish to get involved in any way at all. Please contact any member of the PTFA.
Below is a message from the PTFA:
🌼We are delighted!!🌼 We very much hope that your little ones enjoy this brilliant space. It’s physical transformation is down to an awful lot of hard work and efforts by so many individuals and companies who we are extremely greatful to.
Thanks to Russ & Martin Lamkin from R Way Paving Ltd for the groundworks & artificial turf. Lee James from Laing O’Rourke for all of the paint, wood & sundries plus ALL of the families & friends who turned out at the Community Day.... we tip our hats to all of you!! THANK YOU!! 😘 x x x
