Update-Thursday 21st June

Dear parents and carers,

I hope you are all still well and taking care of each other.

As we get closer to our school opening to key worker children on Monday 1st June we continue to work away behind the scenes ensuring everything is ready and in place.

I have now received clarification from the city council that school dinners will operate as they would normally. This means that children entitled to a free school meal will be provided with a meal and meals will be prepared for children who pay.

If you are planning on accessing school from Monday 1st June could you please inform school no later than Friday 21st May. This is essential as we can only accommodate 30 children in 3 groups of 10 with our available staff. If you wish to order a school meal could you also inform school no later than Friday 21st May. All emails should be sent to;

Please be aware that you will be asked for proof that you are a key worker. This can be in the form of a headed letter or photo identification. If you wish, this can be emailed to school before we return on 1st June.

We ask that the only bags brought into school are packed lunch bags/boxes and, following the governments advice, any pencil cases brought in will have to remain in school. We will provide every child who attends our hub with a plastic wallet containing pencils, colouring materials, a ruler and anything else that we think they will need for the week ahead. Children should bring their own water bottle which can be refilled throughout the day.

Look after yourselves and we hope to see everyone very soon.

Kind regards,

Mr D Harrop

Reopening our school on 1st June for Key Worker children

Dear parents and carers,

Yesterday, I met with the Senior Leadership Team to discuss the arrangements for reopening our school to key worker children and vulnerable children on 1st June and I'm extremelly pleased with the progress that we made.

As we will be accomodating a range of Year groups school will function as a hub. This means that staff will not be delivering the National Curriculum, but will plan and deliver a range of themed activities that are suitable for mixed age groups.

Our opening hours for the first week will be normal school hours; 8:40am until 3:30pm. The school gates will be open for children to arrive any time between 8:40am and 9:10am. Children arriving after 9:10am should access the school through the main entrance. At 3:30pm children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be dismissed on the Infant yard. Children in Years 3 and 4 will be dismissed through the hall doors and children in Years 5 and 6 will leave through the usual doors that lead onto the KS2 playground. We ask that parents collecting children at 3:30pm socially distance themselves behind the cones on the playground and the children will be sent to you. If you wish to collect your child before 3:30pm this can be done via Mrs Driscoll in the school office.

I am meeting with our breakfast club providers to discuss risk assessments and how we can safely begin our early morning and after school provision for possibly the week begining 8th June. I will update everyone when these checks and discussions have been completed.

As we are functioning as a hub children may wear their uniform or their own clothes. We will be planning 'safe' physical activities so it is important that children have suitable footwear for such activities.

We are still waiting for confirmation on the financial arrangements for school dinners from the City Council, however if you plan on using the hub and require a school meal please inform the office as soon as possible so that we can ensure enough meals are prepared each day.

To limit the risk of infection, we plan to keep the children in 3 groups while in schools. This will be a Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 group, a Year 3 and 4 group and a Year 5 and 6 group. Each group will have staggered breaks and lunch times to limit contact with each other with the aim of keeping all children and staff as safe as possible.

While we function as a hub each class will continue to provide online learning via; Purple Mash, class pages on the website, Twitter, paper copies if requested and several other formats.

If you need to inform the school that your child will be attending the hub, inform us if you would like a school meal prepared or have any questions this can all be done through our admin email (admin@st-maryswestderby.liverpool.sch.uk).

Stay safe and take care everyone,

Mr D Harrop

Liverpool position on schools re-opening

Dear parents and carers,

Today, all schools received the above letter outlining how Liverpool will look to re-open schools in the coming weeks.

From Monday 1st June we will open for children of 'Key-Workers' and 'Vulnerable' children. The list of who is eligible can be found here;

If you wish for your child or children to attend school from Monday 1st June could you inform Mrs Discoll and myself by email so that I can ensure that there are enough staff in school each day;

The council will make a decision over the coming weeks if it will be safe for Year 6 to return from Monday 15th June. Other year groups will then be considered for return from Monday 29th June. This will be reviewed on a weekly basis and I will inform everyone when I receive more information.

Stay safe and take care.

Kind regards,

Mr D Harrop
