Walking in the light of God’s Love-Together we will succeed
At St. Mary’s, we believe that mathematics is essential to everyday life and a key skill for success in all areas of learning. Our aim is to ensure every child becomes a confident, fluent and resilient mathematician who can apply their knowledge with understanding and reasoning.
We follow the White Rose Maths scheme from EYFS through to Year 6. This carefully sequenced, small-step approach supports pupils to develop:
Teaching is underpinned by the concrete–pictorial–abstract (CPA) approach, enabling pupils to explore concepts with practical resources before progressing to abstract representations.
Pupils revisit and build on prior learning through carefully designed interleaved learning and daily fluency practice. Key concepts are broken into manageable steps, ensuring a depth of understanding before moving on.
