Walking in the light of God’s Love-Together we will succeed
On 9th October, School Council members from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 visited the St. Andrew’s Community Centre Food Bank.
With a plentiful amount of food donated by the families of St. Mary’s Primary School, our trip to the food bank gave us a great opportunity to show our generosity and support for such a wonderful cause.
Indeed, our Harvest celebration earlier that morning gave us great reason to realise the importance of sharing the benefits that can be reaped during Harvest Season.
Eventually, our minibus was ladened with Harvest goods and the School Council members were off to St. Andrew’s Community Centre Food Bank to share our wonderful collection of food.
Upon arriving, it took our team (of nine children) ten minutes to eventually stack our food parcels safely into the Community Centre. We were then given the chance to explore the inner workings of the food bank and see how our food would eventually be used to help those who are in need.
Shelves upon shelves were stacked with foods, toiletries, drinks, condiments, clothes and other important cooking items. Yet we were soon told, that even all this wasn’t enough to feed the thousands of people who use this food bank and its eight other North Liverpool centres.
It really made us appreciate the hard work that the volunteers and workers at the centre put into this food bank. It us also gave us an idea of how hard it would be to work at those times of the year when food and giving is most crucial to those in need; Christmas time and winter.
Our most poignant time at the centre was when we were shown to the ‘What Our Clients Say’ wall. A wall that was dedicated to comments left behind by those who need and use the food bank.
On our way back from the Centre, the children of the School Council decided that it might be possible to further continue our support for the food bank.
We hope to come together again to generate some ideas on how we can, once again, help those less fortunate than ourselves
