Zigi Shipper : Holocaust Survivor Testimony

What a moving, thought provoking evening, Church was full this evening as people, young and old, packed in to hear the testimony of Zigi Shipper who survived the Holocaust. As part of Hope 2016, organised by Mr Peter Bull from Alsop High School and hosted by school and church, the evening began with an introduction by Mr Peter Bull followed by a short service involving readings from our pupils and singing from our choir, A former pupil then introduced Zigi.

Zigi spoke openly of his experiences as a child in the ghetto at Lodz. He then recounted some of his experiences as an inmate of Auschwitz- Birkenau, through to his release as a 16 year old. Far from being morose or self-pitying, Zigi talked about how lucky he was and brought messages of positivity and hope: hope for the future and hope that the younger generation will bring about change.

For those of you who were fortunate enough to make it, we hope you enjoyed this event. More events will be taking place throughout the month - find out more on the Hope leaflet on our letters page.
