  • Walk for Gambia

Tue 09 Apr 2019 Mrs Hall

This afternoon, the whole school set off on our 'Walk for Gambia' in aid of sending the donated shoes to our sponsored school. With the assistance of lots of parents, grandparents and friends of St. Mary's, each class walked through the park to the Lodge house before returning to school. It was a lovely afternoon - we were certainly blessed with the weather.

Thank you to all of our helpers, it was lovely to see some old and friendly faces. Thank you to Mrs Bailey and School Council for organising the walk and for the chocolate eggs and juice upon return. Between the raffle and the walk, an amazing £225 was raised.

  • Goodbye Miss Nolan!

Tue 09 Apr 2019 Mrs Hall

Today we said 'Goodbye' to Miss Nolan who moves on to the next exciting step in her life. Miss Nolan will be getting married this summer and will begin her married life living in the Lake District. We met as a whole school to sing to her, present cards from the children and gifts. The Cook, Mrs Edwards very kindly made her a lovely, gluten-free chocolate cake.

We wish you all the very best for the future, Miss Nolan. Do come back and visit if you are back in Liverpool!

  • Healing Little Hearts

Fri 22 Mar 2019 Mrs Hall / Mrs Taylor

    Article written by Mrs Taylor:

As it fell in Heart Awareness Month, we had a Heart stall at our Spring Disco selling small items to raise both money and awareness for 'Healing Little Hearts'.

We were very happy to have raised £212, which will go towards helping children abroad who do not have the benefit of the NHS and who otherwise would not be able to have much needed cardiac operations.

We were very happy to welcome Dr Ram into school today to accept the cheque on the charitys' behalf. Dr Ram is a cardiac surgeon at Alder Hey Hospital. He talked to Class 1 and Class 2 about his work and how he has helped our friend A by carrying out her lifesaving surgery. The children asked some great questions! Dr Ram told us that he was travelling abroad tomorrow with a team of other doctors and nurses to spend the week carrying out surgeries for poorly children with no access to the health care we are so lucky to have. In October, A’s mum, Vicki, will be travelling with Dr Ram to support families of cardiac children abroad and we look forward to hearing updates on the work of Healing Little Hearts in the future

  • Open The Book

Wed 20 Mar 2019 Mrs Hall

Open the Book visited us this morning to bring us the story of The Last Supper. We saw how Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver and how The Last Supper is now remembered through The Eucharist.

Thank you to Class 3 who took part in the performance and to Open The Book for another enjoyable performance.

  • World Book Day Bonus

Wed 13 Mar 2019 Mrs Hall

A huge thank you to Kate at Blackwells Liverpool for helping us to source ten out of the twelve titles for World Book Day. So as not to disappoint children who had asked for the other two titles, Mr Moran, Mrs Armstrong and myself spent the lunchtime scouting supermarkets  from West Derby to Walton,

Fortunately, we managed to scrape enough copies together! After the hectic search, I messaged Abi Elphinstone to congratulate her on such a successful book and tell her of our scramble for the book. She has very kindly sent a message of encouragement and a signed bookplate and sticker for every child who ordered a copy of her book, Everdark. The children were rightly thrilled about receiving these today.

From our voucher allocation, we had 22 vouchers spare so Blackwells will be choosing 22 of the books and taking them to Zoe’s Place as a donation from us.
