  • Boss of the North

Thu 07 Jul 2016 Mrs Hall

Boss of the North is back for 2016!

The White Rose Maths Hub, in partnership with Mangahigh, have invited us to join their Boss of the North maths competition running 11 - 19 July.

This week long event will see primary and secondary schools from across the North of England go head to head in order to be crowned the 'Boss of the North' and win some great prizes.

Children will play online maths games to score points and win prizes. The hope is to highlight how maths can be fun, and this competition is a great way to do that. Some key points about the competition include:

The competition will start at 10am on 11th July and run until 1pm on 19th July. On 11th July, you'll find a brand new competition leaderboard on your account, which will just count points earned during this period.

Children earn points by completing activities on Mangahigh. Earning a bronze medal is worth 1 point, a silver is worth 2 and a gold medal is worth 3 points. Children can earn one medal per activity. So for example, if they pass an activity to bronze medal standard they will win 1 bronze medal and 1 point. If they replay that activity and upgrade their medal to gold, they will exchange their previously earned bronze medal for a gold medal and will get 2 extra points. They now have the maximum 3 points available for that task, and there are no more points to be had by replaying it - it's time to move on to something new.

The aim of the game for your students is to earn 150+ points during the competition to win a real medal. On the 11th, they will see a new counter on their profile pages which will show them how close they are to this goal.

Children who wish to take part should use the login details provided.

The link for the website is on the Children's section of this website.

  • Sports Day update

Thu 07 Jul 2016 Mr Hargreaves

Due to the rain we will not be able to use the Scout Hut field.  Despite being really disappointed I would hate to risk an injury due to wet grass.  If the weather clears up for this afternoon we WILL use the KS2 Playground.  A message will be sent out around 11.30am to confirm arrangement.  We apologise but the rain took the decision out of our hands.

Thank you and be in touch later,  Mr Hargreaves and Mr Kirby

  • Festival of Sport information

Wed 06 Jul 2016 Mr Hargreaves

I was asked to write a quick note regarding tomorrow's Festival of Sport.  Tomorrow morning, ALL children will take part in our House Sports Competition on the Scout Hut field.  Parents are invited to come along and cheer for your child and their House as they take part in 12 different sporting challenges.  There will be refreshments provided by the PTFA.  ALL children take part in this and compete for the House Cup and will be rewarded for their efforts.

Children return to School for lunch.  After lunch we then hold the Elite Athletics Competition on the KS2 Yard, including children from Reception to Year 6.  Once again ALL parents are invited as spectators (1.30pm arrival) as different track and field events are experienced.  During this event, children from each class who came top in the top three or so from each activity (when practicing in PE) will compete against each other.  Trophies and medals will be presented.  Not all children take part in this due to time / space restrictions, but watch and cheer on their classmates.  Text messages have been sent out to competitors for the afternoon event.  Last year it was a real family event, supporting children who have persevered over the past few weeks, refined their skill and earned their place for the afternoon.  All children will be involved in some way during the afternoon and get to experience a live sporting event with athletes of their own age.

The children have been building up to our Festival of Sport during this summer term and are well prepared for it.  It will be FANTASTIC to share this events with you and watch each child flourish and achieve in both the morning and the afternoon.

  • Aspirations Day

Mon 04 Jul 2016 Mrs Hall

A huge thank you to all of the parents who gave up their time today to come in and talk to the children about their jobs. The children enjoyed moving around the school, listening to all of the different jobs available. They got to try some of their skills out and ask questions about each job: nursing, engineering, fitness and nutrition, banking, researching and cardio physiology.

Thank you to Miss Turpin for organising the day and a massive thank you to Mr Spencer, Mrs Wheeler, Mrs McKane, Mrs McGreary, Mr O'Brien, Mr Bennett and Mrs Nicholson-Pike for giving up your time to enlighten us all!

  • Her Majesty The Queen's Visit

Wed 22 Jun 2016 Mrs Hall

Well, what an exciting day! We were off to see the Queen as she visits Liverpool as part of her 90th birthday tour. We headed off into town earlier on today to our allocated viewpoint. The Royal Standard was flying above the Town Hall and even the rain couldn't dampen our spirits. Eventually, we saw the Queen as she got out of her car and entered the Town Hall. After a short wait, we were greeted by Her Majesty and Prince Philip from the balcony. We waved, cheered and even sang the National Anthem to her! I'm sure she loved it!

  • Fun Maths Roadshow

Tue 21 Jun 2016 Mrs Hall

The Liverpool University Maths Outreach team visited us today and brought along their Fun Maths Roadshow. From the children's responses and enthusiasm, it most certainly was fun! Children had to use problem solving and reasoning skills to complete as many challenges as they could in the time they had in the hall. From Class 1 right up to Class 6, each set of activities was energetic and made us all think about number, measures and shape and space. Thank you to  Robert and Michael for showing how fun maths really is!
